Would you let AI evaluate your project?

AI is rapidly finding its way into evaluation. It can summarise interviews, analyse qualitative data, generate questions, draft reports and potentially make evaluation much more accessible for projects with small budgets and limited capacity.

 

 

And here's a question that is getting increasingly interesting: if AI can make some parts of evaluation dramatically quicker, what does that mean for the cost and value of evaluation? If one evaluator spends two days analysing interviews and another uses AI to do some of the heavy lifting, should we expect the work to cost the same? What are we actually paying for—the hours, the expertise, the judgement, or the end result? Should quoting by day rates be phased out?

 

For our next Evaluation Enthusiasts’ Coffee Break, we're going to have an informal, open conversation about AI, evaluation and the human judgement problem.

We'll be asking:

•     What are you already using AI for in evaluation?

•     What would you happily hand over to AI—and what would you never trust it with?

•     Could AI help small organisations do better evaluation with fewer resources?

•     How should we think about quality, cost and value when evaluators are using AI in very different ways?

•     And, ultimately… would you let AI evaluate your project?

 

As always, this isn't a training session or a webinar. There are no AI experts coming to tell us what we should be doing! It's a chance to compare notes, share experiences, air some concerns and perhaps discover some useful things our peers are already trying.

 

We'll also have a bit of AI Evaluation Bingo to find out just how much of this is already happening behind the scenes…
