Partnership Bootcamp

This 5-week course is for those wishing to develop, maximise and trouble-shoot partnerships in their work.

So many of our organisations rely on partnership working to reach our goals – but if it’s so important, why do we rarely get any training in it?

Partnership working is ‘business-critical’ and so these are now essential skills for the modern workplace, and top funders’ agendas – that’s exactly why we’ve created the Partnership Bootcamp.

This Bootcamp is designed for anyone who is:

  • Already working with partners
  • Feeling imposter-syndrome
  • Has encountered issues and wants to know how to solve or avoid them in the future
  • Starting a project or role where collaboration is essential and wants to embed best practice from the start
  • Has inherited a dysfunctional partnership and wants to know where to start
  • Wants to expand their professional skill-set and standout from the crowd by having what no one else has on their CV – training in partnership working.

What did previous Bootcampers think?

“Really helpful and opens up a new way of thinking”

“An intensive, practical, super-useful dive that gives you the tools you need to really start making changes in your organisation.”

“An amazing learning experience where you have the opportunity to apply what you learn immediately, with useful tools and support.”

“Really worthwhile, thought-provoking with lots of practical ideas and tools”

Who is it for?

Partnership working is pervasive across organisations so this Bootcamp is not aimed at one particular role per se, but rather designed to be a suite of tools and skills that can be applied in many different partnership working situations.  Bootcampers will range from experienced leaders and senior managers wanting to fine-tune their organisation’s approach to partners, to project officers, advisors and funding officers.

How does it work?

Together on this small group CPD opportunity, we will be exploring the different types of partnership, thinking about how to model the 3 ‘C’s of partnership working, and working through the 12 steps of partnership building – from identifying and brokering partnerships, to relationship management and trouble-shooting to reviewing and evaluating.

Like all our Bootcamps it's a confidence-boosting deep-dive into the topic with exercises that you can practically apply to your organisation, and active partnerships right away. You will end the Bootcamp with a clear plan for creating, managing and reviewing partnerships, as well as a toolbox of handy resources to draw from.

Format: Live sessions (not recorded) run on the same day each week for 5-weeks and participants must be able to commit to attend all sessions and do up to 1-hour of ‘homework’ in-between each session. The course fee includes access to a Bootcamper only WhatsApp group and the chance to take-up two mini mentoring sessions for one-to-one support.

Time: 1.15-2.45pm

More on what you’ll cover

Week 1: What is this partnership for anyway? – partnership working takes time and resource so we’ll kick-off the Bootcamp by exploring why we want to collaborate, the types of partnership available and then self-assessing existing partnerships. We will introduce the 3 ‘C’s of partnership working and begin to work through the 12-steps to partnership building by considering how to scope a partnership and identifying potential partners.

Week 2: Building on solid foundations – our second week is all about forming your partnerships and building collaboration. We’ll work through deciding if you need a formal partnership agreement, choosing the right type, identifying the mutual benefits of working together and agreeing a common purpose or vision. This groundwork will set your partnership up to succeed.

Week 3: Staying on track – once your partnership is up and running, it needs TLC to keep it healthy and productive. In week 3 we’ll explore how to put systems in place to help your partnership run like a dream by nurturing it with great relationship management, identifying risks and trouble-shooting issues before, or when they occur.

Week 4: Keeping it fresh – partnerships can rumble on for years, start to drift and go astray, and get to the point where everyone is asking ‘why did we start this’ or ‘what is this giving us’? Review and revision are healthy parts of best practice partnership working.  If you haven’t undertaken a partnership review recently, our penultimate week will arm you will essential tools that you can swing into action straight away.

Week 5: What difference does our partnership make? – people rarely evaluate partnership working yet it takes time and energy to undertake, and can be a deal breaker to making the impact you want.  In week 5 we’ll finish the 12 ways to partnership building by adding different approaches to evaluating partnership working to our toolbox. You’ll leave with a range of methods to investigate the impact of collaboration that you can draw upon in your work.

The Bootcamp aims to build your skills and confidence in bite-sized chunks, and we are therefore taking a blended learning approach. So, in addition to weekly themed sessions above there will be:

  • Short self-guided tasks set at the end of each themed session.  These are designed to try out what you’ve learnt in your own setting and to move forward embedding evaluation into your organisation
  • Cheat sheets, checklists etc on the theme of each week
  • 2 one-to-one mentoring sessions to support your learning journey – one at the beginning and one near the end
  • Access to a WhatsApp group with your fellow bootcampers and tutor to swap ideas and chat through problems as they happen
  • Tutor on ‘speed dial’ – you can WhatsApp your Tutor anytime for support, with questions etc that you don’t want to share with the group.
